Iran's Blogfather: Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are Killing the Web
Hossein Derakhshan was a blogger imprisoned by the Iranian government for espousing his opinions online in 2008. He was released in 2014 six years after initial arrest, and has elected to write about his experience with the web as it has changed.
I find I'm in agreement with him: Facebook, et al, have created isolated silos--thin slices of the Internet--from which there is little escape. And that's by design. Whereas Twitter is somewhat friendlier with regards to link sharing, Facebook isn't. And I don't think that's a good thing.
