Steam on Linux: Deletes everything on uninstall?

Apparently the offending code is this bit as discovered by a HN poster.

Windows users are apparently not immune to this either; depending on Steam's installation location, it can potentially delete everything in the folder it was installed to (although with the limitation that it's almost never installed in that manner).
I gave that lich a phylactery shard. Liches love phylactery shards.
