Election Day

Postby Zancarius » Tue Nov 06, 2012 2:19 pm

For those of you in the US, if you're planning on voting, don't forget today is election day. Even if you're not planning on voting for president, remember that there are always state and local representatives on the ballot in addition to assorted amendments, bond issues, etc.

Colorado approved weed, Putin congratulates Obama by telegram, Nate Silver turns out to be a warlock or a ballot-stuffer, and in Britain, the new Archbishop of Canterbury is unveiled by bookies before government or church. Oh, and Puerto Rico requested statehood. Whoever said politics was boring?

EDIT: Yes, I did vote -- Colorado allowed me to vote by e-mail nonetheless, and a new State Department service ensured that my vote counted.

Personally, I'm not happy with the outcome, but it wasn't entirely unexpected.

At least the State Department has their shit together. Tons of military purportedly won't be receiving their ballots until well after this time next month--just a tad too late.

The only reasons my vote went through were because 1) the State Department's Federal Voter Assistance Program actually assisted, and 2) Colorado allows opt-in e-mail voting. Boulder County, on the other hand, managed to 1) refuse to pick up my registration fax, and 2) reject my e-mail registration because it had a *.ru domain name, which is why I had to resort to the federal program.

I'm hearing tons of stories from expats abroad (military and civilian) whose states do not allow e-mail voting that did not receive their ballots. Happens every election (which DOES NOT make it okay).
