Looks like Blizzard gave us the announcement I've been waiting for this week. Right from their blog site for Diablo 3. May 15th. Who's ready to smite evil one more time?
As a side note, who would like to join me in some co-op play of Diablo 2 for old times sake?

I think the annual subscription is more of a "Pay not attention to the man behind the curtain while we give you the illusion of obtaining something for free."
