Looks as if the MGS is probably gone for good.
I love space-related articles, but I find this one especially interesting. It's pretty incredible to consider all of the avenues NASA has available to attempt to detect or resurrect a lost space craft. Though, I found the most fascinating aspect to be their attempt to detect it with the Opportunity rover. Even if they never re-establish communication with it, we have enough hardware on Mars at this point to give it a fair shot. It certainly doesn't compare to the Pioneer probe which, until fairly recently, was still functioning well enough to be used for measurements beyond the sun's shock front (yes, it is that far out). But, for a solar-powered orbiter, it did rather well.
