Yeah. One of the guys I work with mentioned this earlier. I know of a few people that play WOW on linux and I think it is stupid of blizzard to ban them since they are using a different OS than their norm.

On the other hand, I'm not sure how Blizzards Warden works really. I know GM's will talk to players in game if they suspect botting and if they get no response, the ban hammer usually comes down.

That thread is based on a slashdot article that's based on an entirely different article...Along the way things get lost in translation. Basically, it is not so much an anti-linux policy (Blizzard isn't that stupid), but it's a shift in how Blizzard seems to be doing business, and one of the unhappy consequences is that linux users seem to be more prone to getting flagged as a false-positive and banned.

I think the complaint is that they have changed their policy from one to the other. The old policy was, "We ban when we catch someone cheating." The new policy seems to be, "We ban when we can't determine someone is NOT cheating."

That's a fundamental paradigm shift in thinking. It assumes guilt instead of assuming innocence.

That seems to be a rather popular notion in our present-day society, though. Perhaps Blizzard is simply parroting our policy makers?

The thread makes for an interesting read. Seems to me as if it's just a few dozen people blabbering on about something they don't know a darn thing about (but are willing to flame anyone for the express purpose of cluelessness--go figure). Thanks, Sonikku! Interesting stuff to say the least, especially watching others' reactions.

New update, Blizzard admits to a "small percentage" of false-positives for linux users running WoW under cedega.

VERY interesting. I see that they're even crediting back time. I'm actually somewhat surprised; I expected them to simply lift the ban and call it even. Whether this means they will be a bit more careful during the next series of rolling bans is left to be seen but it is a step in the right direction. If nothing else, they're at least admitting that they want a small percentage of paying customers back. Good news overall.
