Possibly the most progressive 'Goons night ever.

Thal and I were talking about it last night, and over the course of one day, the 'Goons accomplished four great feats.

The first was when Alacor got his epic paladin mount, which he'd been doing for quite a while. Grats to Alacor!

The second... not so important feat... Ladelle got all the racial epic mounts she was capable of riding (Horse, Sheep, and a spiffy Tiger). Which had also been a long and trying effort.

The third, and probably most amazing... you will have to bug Thal to tell you about. But it it something he had been trying to do longer than all the previous goals. And damn did he deserve it.

The fourth... well, it relates to Thal's accomplishment. But we will say that two 'Goons went to kill their first killing of a certain raid boss and one-shotted the deal.

And a fifth feat has yet to be done. Thal is on the last last last part of his epic warlock mount. Let's have five great things done this week!:D

In closing... Go 'Goons! I love you guys. Shameful part is, I'm sober.

You needn't go any further. I smell Onyxia's blood on your guys' boots. Grats to Thal for his Quel and to both of you for an Onyxia kill!

Hey, it wouldn't have gotten done if you hadn't said on TS "Hey, Thal... wanna go to Ony?" It was a rhetorical question, sure, but I can only imagine how frustrated everyone would have been had I decided not to go!

Ultimately, the 'goons deserve all the credit for this (and the other accomplishments). Turus for organizing the UBRS run that got Thal keyed, and Lithium for seeing it through to the end. The sword isn't my achievement, it's yours.

On a slightly different note, the MT for the Ony run was also getting his Quel made during that fight. The three of us (Lith, Terias, and I) went to DM North to do the final turn in and--the kicker--he's looking to start doing MC raids and needs an offtank. Problem is, I have to work on my +FR now. While it isn't pressing, he suggested it would help out immensely. (A rogue on the run made a funny comment, and he's got full epics: "You don't need fire resist for MC, that's dumb. Healers just need to learn to heal better.") After that PuG, I was impressed. 40 man raids really aren't all that difficult; if a PuG can one-shot Ony, who the hell needs a raiding guild that can't even drop her on the third try?

My experience and observation there proves a point Lith raised: 5 man runs will always be a bigger challenge than 40-man raids. The only challenges in a 40 man? Cooperation, organization, and waiting the hour for everyone to get together for a run that takes less than 30 minutes. (Seriously, we gathered up starting at 11, got started around 12, and downed her by 12:28.)

The fight itself was interesting. It's nothing more than a zerg/DPS fight through the duration of it. What's more, most of the raid group had died around about 36-38% on Onyxia (she's got about 1 million+ hit points); Lith and I thought we were all going to wipe at that point. Then, Terias simply stated on Vent: "Okay, druids, battle-res and get a chain res going. We've got this."

...and they did.

Lith, you were right. That was the smoothest fight I've ever seen. It pleases me because I know just how much more effort 5 mans take in contrast.

Thanks again, to the 'goons. But most important: Thanks to Artigen for giving me the book out of sheer kindness and the principle that 5-man instance players ought not be deprived of end-game loot. The irony, in spite of how long this took for me to complete, is that it was done in a manner I think Artigen would have found best. An SA-like guild run for the UBRS keying portion and a PuG 40 man raid. I can't think of a better way to honor Artigen's principles than that. I'll be sending him a screenie later today, assuming he still checks his mail.
I gave that lich a phylactery shard. Liches love phylactery shards.
