I have some pictures for you. I'd like you to name this city.

It's overseas, right? Gotta be Fallujah. Err wait, that looks like wet pavement.

Maybe it's the South after the wrath of a named storm wreaked havoc... Maybe it's Chernobyl! Eastern Europe?

Keep guessing...

It's Detroit, Michigan. Yes, this is a town in the US. Welcome to what happens when your manufacturing base crumbles beneath you. Here's some videos:

Pay special attention to #4. The city spends money to create a Hollywood-like set to create the impression that things are perfectly normal.

By the way. Welcome to America.

Edit: I find it mildly ironic that the last video is from Al Jazeera.

Note: I did not discover these videos. Instead, these videos were discovered by an acquaintance of mine here.

I'm curious what those critics of the movie Roger and Me would have to say about this.

Simply amazing. THankfully with today's online media this type of information can be dissiminated. I am truly not surprised that our own media has not reported on any of this. WOW!

Huh! And here I would have guessed New Orleans!

Oh my, now this had me rolling!

I didn't even think of it! But, you certainly raise a good point with the mismanagement at virtually every level of government.

Yeah, exactly. Detroit being a failed experiment, it's not surprising that the media won't report it. In fact, they cannot report it.

That said, there's a lot of alarmist comments in the videos along the lines of "this is what the whole country is going to look like!" Well, maybe. I doubt it, though: Detroit has been in decline for at least a decade. Instead, this is a far better example of the mechanics responsible for creating ghost towns--except at a markedly larger scale. Take away whatever the city's economy was dependent upon and the entire thing crumbles like a house of cards. (As an aside, this is also a good example of what happens when the city government royally screws up and mismanages just about everything; things on this sort of scale typically aren't a result of one or two factors alone.)

There is a question that catches my interest. With a list like the fastest dying US cities, it makes you wonder where the people leaving Detroit are going...

I was thinking exactly the same thing!
