I can't believe it. What the heck is going on?

Sad thing is that with Jackson dead, you probably won't hear much about Billy Mays on the news...

Billy Mays reportedly did a lot for charity. He'd offer his unique style of salesmanship (free of charge, I'm guessing) during their fundraisers and the likes. Yeah, there's a documentary on him, but from what I've gathered it doesn't even come close to capturing the individual he was (it's a documentary on his work, after all). In interviews that I've seen, he was an extremely mild-mannered individuals. You probably wouldn't have recognized him!

Interestingly, he was an avid user of the products he advertised. That's something you don't see much of these days. His real life temperament was a helluva lot better than the Mays-wannabes like Vince what's-his-nuts from ShamWoW (who's been arrested numerous times).

Man, first the legend responsible for the shift in popular music that we have today. Now the guy who was a legend in advertising who brought personal advertising into the mainstream. And dozens of knock-offs who tried to be like him.

I think I'm going to spend the day watching Billy Mays adverts on Youtube.

His "Pitchmen" show with Anthony Sullivan was something I'd watch weekly. It was a cool show, and gave an insight to the kind of guy he was. Probably the most enthusiastic person I've ever seen.

The details thusfar are this: Yesterday, his plane came in with a rough landing. The front tire blew out, and objects hit a few passengers on the head. Mays was one of the passengers. He said he'd been struck, but "I got a hard head".

Sounds like a concussion death, but we'll see. That's all I can think of for an otherwise healthy 50-year-old man who took care of himself.

That's what I was thinking when I heard that he had been impacted in the head after the landing.

It sure sounds a lot like that Canadian skier who hit a tree with her head, said she was fine, then was dead 24 hours later, doesn't it?

Those overhead baggage compartments are flimsy. In ordinary operating conditions, they're perfectly fine. But with the sorts of crap people will put up there, all it takes is a rough landing for those suckers to pop open. While this alone might not be enough to force airlines to consider stronger locks (face it, rough landings don't happen all that often), perhaps some progressive ones will consider it.

I wonder if it's Congress? They're pushing through so many retarded bills, perhaps they're killing people off to distract the news? ;)

This is a pretty disturbing chain of deaths of some fairly young people as of late. But Billy Mays? He was hardly on tv a few days ago and now he's gone. I hope his charities won't be all the poorer for his untimely death.

I agree, Soni. Apparently he'd just signed a lucrative contract with Taco Bell, too. What a crying shame. =(

The initial autopsy report is in and the examiner claims that it appears to be related to heart disease with no signs of head injury. I'm not so sure I buy that but it could just be wild coincidence...

Unfortunately the symptoms of a belated head injury and a heart attack can be similar: nausea, vomiting, dizziness, difficulty breathing. We won't know until the autopsy is done and possibly not even until the toxicology reports come back with a report on his CK enzyme levels.
