As you've mentioned before, it certainly seems that Toshibas have a fairly well-known heating issue (and arcing of the power connector inside the system, depending on make). It's a shame Best Buy isn't really more interested in helping you out. Save for chaining them by their testicles, I can't imagine a much better way to get them to cooperate

Thanks for the help, Al!

So the latest update is that Saturday I could no longer boot up because Windows was spitting BSoDs and automatically restarting cyclically, even if I tried to boot into safe mode. Best Buy has been sitting on it since them -- twice I've called and the tech I spoke to misread the notes and said, "Oh yeah, we'll just dump some thermal paste..." Also, they're not seeing it overheat when they run their "diagnostic stress test," but they can't see it overheat in Vista because they can't figure out how to get Vista to load, hence they don't really believe me that it's overheating period.

These guys are hilarious.

Ahahahaha that made me giggle. Sad thing is, you hit the nail on the head. So really, I should be crying more than laughing, but in the case of such incompetence, what can you do?

I really don't see why after all the trouble you've had, they can't just... you know... maybe give you a new one? It'd save time and money in the long run, unless it's a serious design flaw (possible!).

Total BS.
