Surprisingly, I don't use Photoshop. I use
GiMP for image manipulation and
Inkscape for vector graphics. I suck at drawing, but the thing I've generally done better with is designing logos for my own personal use (DESTRealm comes to mind).

Turus is right on the money. It's the lazy man's way of taking screenshots. You can import a person's armory profile and get all of their equipment. Unfortunately, you have to remember what their face looked like in order to be able to mimic their look exactly.

Trust me, get GiMP. The UI is a big cumbersome if you're used to Photoshop, but it's open source and has nearly every bit of power that Photoshop does. The Windows version is
here. There's also a few resources you can grab
here.
I originally started with Picture Publisher 5 (and later 7), but both lacked the notion of layers. They had something similar to layers, but the capabilities of that feature was grossly limited. I started using GiMP around about 2001-2002, IIRC. Trust me, the newer builds of GiMP are vastly easier to use than their older counterparts.

That's no too bad an idea at all. My reasoning for the elves was due in no small part to my somewhat dark humor.
