I had a strange feeling this patch cycle was going to bork servers. I'm not sure how a reasonably simple patch could have screwed things up so extensively. Then again, they do have a lot of realms to maintain. It's possible it might not have anything much to do with the patch per se but the effects thereof.
No doubt they had to make some minor database changes and something, somewhere didn't get patched or migrated correctly. Oops.
