Minor service disruption Dec 25-30

Postby Zancarius » Fri Dec 25, 2015 1:48 pm

There was a minor service disruption on Christmas with Linode's network. It was brief but may have rendered the forums unreachable for a short period of time.

Cheers.

According to Linode, their Dallas data center was subjected to a DoS attack earlier today and appears to have been mitigated.

I'll post more information as it becomes available.

According to Linode, DDoS attacks have continued through today. I've noticed some periods of high latency and lost packets this morning, so I suspect whoever this asshole is must be continuing today as well.

Sigh...

Linode's status page strongly suggest that they (and their network) are the targets of the current round of DDoS attacks, rather than someone's specific VPS instance in Dallas. It appears the attacks are now targeting their infrastructure and other data centers world wide.

Sounds like someone's trying to bring them down over the holidays, which is just rude.

You'll likely experience periodic problems connecting to the forums for the remainder of the day until this attack subsides.

Linode has been experiencing more connectivity issues with their Dallas data center. There's no report as of yet whether this is tied to the previous attacks, but the timing is awfully suspicious.

If this continues, I might spin up another VPS in a different location or on another provider.

Linode has issued further alerts that their infrastructure is still under a DDoS attack. As yet, there's no indication whether it's a customer of theirs that is the focus of this attack or Linode itself. Considering the scale of this attack, the infrastructure targeted, and the data centers affected, I strongly suspect the latter.

You'll likely continue to have difficulty connecting to the Goon forums and TeamSpeak for the time being as well as periodic latency spikes.

I'll keep you guys updated.

DDoS attacks appear to be continuing for the 5th day in a row, mostly targeting Linode's Dallas and London data centers.
