So I'm gonna pitch out an idea here...

So with the new expansion coming out, Anet's adding some nifty new content for guilds. Now given how extremely small we are, we'll probably miss out on some stuff like we do for the guild rush events. That's why I'm wondering who's willing to work with me on an unconventional recruitment drive. Here's what I'm thinking...

Offer to run people through dungeons, help them snag achievements, map exploration, living story stuff, open world events, you name it. Specifically target newer plays to sift out the douche bags and people who are already 100% committed to other guilds. This will not only let us get to see how they play with others, but it'll also hopefully get our name out there a little bit. I realize we're all busy with other stuff, so I'd like an estimate on how efficient this would be for those of you who are currently committed to other games or real life drama. I know that for me, my schedule makes a mosh pit look organized, but I'm hoping to try some of this out on the occasional weekend till the expansion hits. Lemme know ya'll.

I'm wondering what the percentage of new players is versus returning players?

It's a good idea. I'm not sure how helpful I'll be since there's no way I can/want to sink much time into GW2...

I know HG and I have been broadening our gaming horizons when free time presents itself. One of the things that made me get bored with Guild Wars 2 was the fact that you had to have a massive guild to do any of the guild activities. I joined a semi large guild in game to see how active they were last year and you only need something like a 12 or more players online to tackle the guild challenges.

Now, I'm a bit wrapped up in FF14 and when I get on a roll, I exclusively play that game due to how fun it is and the mostly non-toxic community which is surprising for an MMO. I can try and make an effort with Guild Wars 2 but it may only be on the weekends. Weekdays are a toss up for me. If some time frame can be established for when you want to do this, I can be online.

One of the oddities I've noticed with Guild Wars 2 is the lack of in game communication. Some zones are dead. If we aim for recruitment, we will need to pick up the old habits of greeting members when they come online. That's assuming they are representing our guild at that time of course. You would be surprised how being a socially friendly guild can go a long way. Organizing social events would be fun. It's what makes Tarnished Coast a blast. They role play social events like patrolling Orr and World Boss events. They don't just play the game, they get people involved! If we can pick up enough people, I'm more than willing to put more time into the blog side of our site for announcements or articles but I need input before I go and do that.

At any rate, yes, I'm interested in recruitment but I'm not sure how to find the "new" players. Final Fantasy 14 was good about labeling new players with a Green Leaf icon so you knew they were new. Guild Wars 2 is more of a crap shoot. Maybe use the LFG tool to bring in fresh, shy players based on whatever description we can post. We could be their viagra to confidence(too early in the week for a comment like this). Spam recruit messages for newbies in map chat in several capital cities and starting zones. This will spread us thin at first until we get members going. I still see the occasional guild spams so recruitment is still active out there.

Step 1: Create a "holding guild" and call it something like "Don't Be Shy."
Step 2: Point it out as newbie friendly.
Step 3: Get new recruits to actively participate in recruitment (not sure how to incentivize this).
Step 4: Migrate them into BRD somehow.
Step 5: Well, I haven't thought this far ahead.

(This is mostly a joke.)

Let's have fun with this. Almost like an additive funny list.

Step 5: Look fabulous doing it.

Actually, something along those lines gives me an idea. Reminded me of something I saw free companies(guilds) in FF14 doing. They were handing out pets to random new players to welcome them to the game. This might be a bit much but I was thinking if we identify new players, maybe we can like make them bags for their inventory or something. Everyone enjoys extra carry space and lets be honest, they don't give us a whole lot when we start playing.

May have to free up space in the guild bank for it but I can build quite a few bags for various types of carry space. Sunder has been doing the mystic toilet thing and it appears he's managed to get some unique skin items and sigils and what not going. I'd like to keep that stuff in the bank since he is working on that project. Maybe free up the first tab for this idea or some similar idea? Call it a starting care package of bags and maybe food buffs? Thoughts?
