Wizard of Oz Video

Postby Texel » Sat Jun 16, 2007 10:42 am

Everyone running Kara tonight should watch this in case we decide to give it a try again - although it seems pretty chaotic there actually is a way to keep it under some control.

The only potentially inaccurate portion of the video is the part about Tinhead and his rust effect - I've done some researching on this and found a lot of conflicting info.

What appears to be the most likely way that Rust works is the one presented in wowwiki - 30 seconds after Dorothy becomes active he gets the first Rust debuff, and then he gets another every 6 seconds thereafter, up to a max of 8.

Someone posted a log of Tinman's Rust effects and all frost damage on him:

3/7 22:31:34.218 Eremite's Ice Lance hits Tinhead for 289 Frost damage.
3/7 22:31:36.693 Eremite's Ice Lance crits Tinhead for 510 Frost damage.
3/7 22:31:37.649 Tinhead gains Rust.
3/7 22:31:44.181 Tinhead gains Rust (2).
3/7 22:31:50.149 Tinhead gains Rust (3).
3/7 22:31:56.211 Tinhead gains Rust (4).
3/7 22:31:57.104 Eremite's Ice Lance hits Tinhead for 290 Frost damage.
3/7 22:32:02.226 Tinhead gains Rust (5).
3/7 22:32:08.397 Tinhead gains Rust (6).
3/7 22:32:11.389 Eremite's Ice Lance hits Tinhead for 287 Frost damage.
3/7 22:32:14.741 Tinhead gains Rust (7).
3/7 22:32:20.834 Tinhead gains Rust (8).
3/7 22:32:28.009 Eremite's Ice Lance crits Tinhead for 509 Frost damage.

as you can see, there's no real correlation between Frost damage and his first debuff, and he gains another Rust every 6 seconds.

edit:
LOL - guess it would help if I actually posted the video.

I didn't notice what levels those mobs were, but I know we started encountering levels 71 and 72 mobs en route. At this point, it's important that everyone has sufficient points in +spell hit (casters) and +hit rating (melee). Being two levels down leaves you at a base 6% chance to miss with spells (don't know about melee formula). At level 70, 12 points of +spell hit = 1% point. My priest is carrying +48 spell hit that I started wearing when we hit these mobs, and it really does help. While 6% doesn't sound like much, that's stretching the fight just that much longer.

Does anyone know what levels the Oz mobs are? Specifically, I think it's important our fire (for strawman) and ice (for tinhead) mages need to make sure they are getting the best chance they can to hit these mobs to keep them under control. With tinhead being kited and strawman disoriented and roar feared, that leaves Dorothee spamming low-dps frostbolts, which seems to be the key to this fight.

Dorothee - ?? Boss
Tito - 70 Beast
Roar - 72 Beast
Tinhead - 72 Mechanical
Strawman - 72 Mechanical
The Crone - ?? Boss

One thing I want to add is that Roar is vulnerable to ALL fears applicable to Beasts, including warlock Fear/Deathcoil/Howl of Terror, hunter Scare Beast, warrior Intimidating Shout, and priest Psychic Scream.

Just in case, you know, I'm not there or die or something.
