You must've changed the wrong thing. I think you were changing the IP address of your desktop rather than the DNS server addresses.

I'll see if I can get some screenshots together.

Let's make sure you were entering the correct stuff.

First, click on the Windows button then go to Control Panel and double-click Network and Sharing Center.

From here, your options may be different. I have Vista Business (got it from the university since it was free, and there's NO WAY I would ever pay for Vista), and this is what it looks like to get to the customization options for the network:

Click on status.

Next, you should have a window that looks something like this:

Click on properties.

Now, you're sitting at the properties for your network. This should show a variety of protocols and other such cruft:

Double-click IPv4.

Now, you can change the addresses:

From here, make absolutely certain you've left the top selection at "Obtain an IP address automatically" and change the bottom one to "Use the following DNS server addresses." Enter 192.168.1.1, which is the address of your router. You don't have to have a secondary DNS, but if it makes you feel better, just enter the same address twice.

Again, this is for Vista business; I don't have Ultimate, and I'm never going to bother actually buying it. However, you should be able to adapt these. I *think* the problem might lay elsewhere, and if it does, this will determine that. It's possible Vista is just being stupid.

That did not help but....under the advanced tab on the IPV4 I found a setting where it says to enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP......under the WINS tab....should that be on Default or should I have that enabled?

Usually leaving it at the default setting is best (normally it enables itself by default, depending on the network topography). NetBIOS, however, doesn't have any affect on traditional DNS, so it shouldn't be the cause of your problems.

Perhaps you could try power cycling the router with your Vista machine still on and then try another [icode]ipconfig /flushdns[/icode] after the router has restarted.
