Wow, that's tragic. Even worse to think that in this day and age, we still haven't the ability to cure such a brutal disease.
The timing of this is rather odd. My mother receives Cure magazine (she's a breast cancer survivor) and mentioned that one of their contributors criticized modern medicine with the unfortunate fact that our ability to treat the disease hasn't changed very much over the course of over 50 years. It certainly seems to be the case--the only things that have changed is that the treatment has been tweaked ever so slightly.
Call me cynical, but the biggest problem in this particular case isn't the doctors. I'd probably put part of the blame on the manufacturers of the drugs they use to treat it; right now, it's more economical to maintain the status quo than it is to engineer a treatment that would serve as a definitive cure. The other thing I would blame is our limited knowledge. Only now, with the advancements in genetic research, are we able to really understand a little more about how and why this happens. 'Course, maybe I'm just ignorant, but these are the assumptions I make regarding my 1) limited knowledge on the subject and 2) the media. Tragic news like Ezra just makes me all the more cynical!
It was amazing how he was able to maintain a positive attitude. That should serve as an inspiration for us all.
I gave that lich a phylactery shard. Liches love phylactery shards.
