Another Flash Vulnerability

Postby Zancarius » Thu Oct 28, 2010 12:55 pm

Looks like there's another vulnerability in Adobe Flash (surprise, surprise), but it appears to only affect PDFs with Flash content. There's currently no patch available and existing workarounds break some interoperability between Flash and Acrobat--not that anyone in their right mind would use Flash in Acrobat. You can follow the workaround here.

It does not currently seem that there are any exploits targeting Flash directly:

This vulnerability (CVE-2010-3654) could cause a crash and potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system. There are reports that this vulnerability is being actively exploited in the wild against Adobe Reader and Acrobat 9.x. Adobe is not currently aware of attacks targeting Adobe Flash Player.

In case you haven't noticed, Adobe has released updates (finally) to a number of their products. Make sure to keep them updated and close your browser before you do!

Also along these lines, I believe MS has released some fixes to correct issues with Windows, Office, and fix a zero day vulnerability in MSIE. And yes, even if you don't use MSIE, you should still apply the update. Most of these vulnerabilities are in MSHTML--the rendering engine IE uses--which can be accessed by other applications and thus triggering the vulnerability from unexpected sources.
