I came across this sad story on Reddit where a guy is trying to prevent a family member from using the gem store in Guild Wars 2. Some good information in that thread in the event you come across someone that is dumb enough to throw away that much money at virtual assets. I've dealt with internet addicts before and I'm certain some are still on my service. To take away their access/control of things is a dangerous thing to do and they can be prone to more isolation from society and also become violent.

This reminds me of the times we would demotivate people that kept spamming items in WOW. In a sense, we prevented them from being too much of an item braggart. One link is fine but multiple times, nope. We put a stop to similar things like this a long time ago but who knows if it really helped in the end. The story from Reddit could be seen as a cautionary tale of being mindful of what you are purchasing and what it really means.
