I think I'm done

I've been mulling over posting this for a while but couldn't bear to do it because it's either an admission of failure, giving up, or something equally displeasing. But, here it is: I won't be coming back to GW2, at least not for a while. The mastery grind is a bit much, and I'm not interested in leveling a revenant alone (if I even wanted to sink the time into leveling--I don't have enough scrolls to boost very far and leveling with 80s doesn't seem like fun). Plus, the changes to the game are a bit hostile toward people who don't play much. That's fine, I won't dispute it (much), but it's just not for me. Some people really like it, and that's great. But it's time I admit that I'm not the target demographic, and I'm perfectly OK with that. (However, that doesn't mean I won't complain! Get off my lawn!)

I don't know when or if I'll decide to play it again, but I'm disappointed that it's become such a grind. If I wanted to do that, I'd fire up my WoW subscription and farm reputations. The intended mechanics seem similar.

Either way, I appreciate the fun we had--it was pretty good while it lasted. I know a couple of you may have had similar complaints recently, and this means I'm preaching to the choir. As such, I'm throwing in the towel with the rest of you, at least for the time being.

'Course there's always other things to try, and if Cube World comes out of beta any time soon, I'm dragging half of you with me. I'd stop writing code for at least 15 minutes to play that.

But be warned I'm getting myself a Das Keyboard (blank key caps, of course) this Christmas, and I might be inclined to spend all day typing.

What are you playing, anyway?

TBH, I haven't been playing much of anything. Most of my time's been getting shunted into other activities.

I have, on occasion, poked around with my WoW private server, but that usually turns into "How can I fix these long-standing bugs?" and an adventure down the rabbit hole of code. I still haven't fixed the quest ordering for the winter holiday stuff (if you finish the goblin quest to talk to Greatfather Winter, it renders the dwarven chain complaining about pseudo-Greatfather Winter impossible to complete; I think it's a problem with quest ordering or quest exclusivity). That said, I strongly suspect I'm done with MMOs for the time being.

I've also been tempted to do some Minecraft, but once I build my megaharvesters in a given world, I start to lose interest. I'll have to post screenshots sometime of my project from earlier in the year.

Now, when it comes to games I'm actually interested in, I'm really excited for wol_lay to finish Cube World. I'll be playing the snot out of that when it's done or the next update gets pushed to my client. His store may still be down, so I'm not sure it's possible to purchase a key at this time. Keep an eye out. I'll be posting if/when it becomes available, because it's an awfully cute little game. The pre-beta combat system kinda sucked and the lack of custom key binding was annoying, but for as graphically simple as it is, it's been fairly pleasant to play (you just can't do much with the current release). I think Josh has Cube World, too. I know Rachael does. Possibly HG (not sure).

Oh, and it'll be multiplayer, too. Read through some of his tweets!
