The e-mail was never opened

You may have heard: About a week ago, a bank employee accidentally sent an e-mail to the wrong e-mail address. It contained names, bank accounts, and SSNs. So what did they do? They asked Google to shut down the account. When Google refused, they got a judge to send a court order to the company. When the account owner finally went to open his e-mail, he couldn't log in! Not only did he have absolutely nothing to do with the entire fiasco, but he was essentially victimized by the stupidity of someone else.

Fortunately, it has been resolved. The offending e-mail was removed and purged, and the e-mail account restored to its rightful owner. Perhaps most importantly for the poor people whose most private information was dispatched by their bank: The e-mail was never opened.
